Biography

Roy was born about 1881. He is the son of Jackson Pritchett and Calista Rife. Roy married Nettie V. Evans on 15 August 1904 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa.^[1] He died 15 July 1947. ^[2]

Roy worked in the retail industry throughout his life. In his wedding announcement in the Des Moines Register (16 August 1904, p. 4) it states that "Mr. Pritchett occupies the position of Manager of the hat department at Simons's clothing store." The 1920 US Census states his occupation as "salesman". In a 1922 listing in the New York Times ^[3], R.D. Pritchett is listed as a buyer of men's hats and boy's caps for Gus Blass D.G. Co. Information about the Gus Blass department store can be found at here. Roy may have also owned a billiard parlor. The Arkansas Democrat (Little Rock, Arkansas), in a write-up of an altercation at a billiard parlor notes that it had recently been purchased by J.E. Wilson from Roy B. Pritchett. Roy and his wife were living in Little Rock at this time, a social notice in the 28 July 1916 Des Moines Register noting that Mrs. Roy Pritchett was returning to her home in Little Rock, Arkansas after visiting with her sister in Des Moines for 7 weeks.
