Biography

Jacob was born in 1796 in Lynn Township, Lehigh, Pennsylvania, the son of Johann Daniel Probst and Eva Catherine Reitz.[1] The family name was alternately spelled Probst or Brobst.

He married (1) Anna Marie Knerr, known as Mary in 1815 at Allentown, Lehigh.[2] They had 6 children.

  • Enos Brobst 1819–1834 • died at 14
  • Abigail Brobst 1822–1903 • m. Levi Knerr
  • Matilda Brobst 1824–1911 • m. (1) Benjamin M Craig, 2 children
  • Amos Brobst 1826–1834 • died in infancy
  • William Brobst 1828–1834 • died in infancy
  • Charles H. Brobst 1830–1834 • died in infancy

Mary passed away in 1830. He brought (at least) the two daughters to live in Allentown with relatives.[3]

He married (2) Hannah (Engelhaupt) Flaugh, a widow in 1832 at Allentown, Lehigh.[4] They had 1 child.

  • John Jacob Probst 1835–1912 • m. (1) Anna Sophia Smith; (2) Nancy Ann Betts

He passed away in 1835. His widow married again in 1837.
