Hi Mary,

How are you? Thanks for adding profiles to WikiTree. There are reasons behind the eighth point in our Honor Code: "We cite sources. Without sources we can't objectively resolve conflicting information." A source provides a way to find out more about the person. Showing sources reduces confusion and duplicates.

Here is what our Sources help page says. It has lots of ideas:

The Sources Style Guide shows how to enter sources in the biography.

A free and very good website to find sources for your family/ancestors is Family Search.

And I'm here to help too, just ask!

Hi Mary

I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to reply to your question about James Alexander Ogg - I've been distracted by my living family :) & haven't been able to get to wiki tree before.

I'm not sure about the merge because there's no evidence the father of Robert Cruickshank Ogg was born in the US or even moved there. James Alexander Ogg isn't a rare name in Scotland so Robert's father could have been any number of them.

I wonder if you would un-merge them so we can leave the possibility open for other James Alexander Ogg contenders?

Many thanks

Glad you joined WikiTree, Mary !

I know when I first joined, because it is a wiki site, it was hard to figure out . Make sure to make frequent use of the HELP sliding bars up on top. We hope you will like our collaborative genealogy community. You now have full access to all the features of WikiTree. We also have our Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on. Having trouble starting your tree ? Look at or one of the how- to videos in the Help section . We do emphasize Sources at WikiTree as well as dates and locations as you build your family tree here . Thank you and if you have any questions , please feel free to ask . Maggi

I would like to join but I am a bit confused. I thought filling out my profile, submitted me to joining. I have a lot of information I would love to share and some I would see if there has been any new developments in that I don't already know about. I am trying to be patient and take it all in without becoming overwhelmed. Mary

Oh - just realized as I was logging off... we were doing a lot of back and forth, but you never said whether you wanted to just look around for a bit or join. To let us know you'd like to join, just post something to that effect on your profile page & a volunteer greeter will be happy to confirm you. Or you can post something on my page, but I won't be back online for about 12 hours or so. Cheers, Liz
