Joseph was born on 31 January 1843 and was baptised privately on 18 July 1843 by the curate of St Margaret's church of King's Lynn, Norfolk, England. His parents were Edward and Susan Proctor of Capel Street, St Margarets, and his father was a shoemaker. [1]
Joseph married Mary Ann Watts in King's Lynn in 1879. [2]
