William Proctor was born in 1834 at Stockingford, Warwickshire, England and baptised on 6 Jul 1834 at Nuneaton, Warwickshire.[1] His father was a labourer and no record has been found of William or his parents in the 1841 or 1851 census so it is likely they moved to find work. No record of siblings has been found and no marriage record for his parents has been found in Warwickshire so it is likely they were from elsewhere and were only in Stockingford for a short time.
William Proctor married Sarah Taylor on 27 Dec 1858 at St Martin, Tipton, Staffordshire.[2] They had eight children: William Proctor (b. 1859), Mary Hannah Proctor (1861–1863), Eliza Proctor (1863–1873), George Proctor (b. 1865), Joseph Proctor (b. 1868), Fanny Proctor (b. 1871), Samuel Proctor (b. 1875), Lizzie Georgina Proctor (b. 1877).
