Biography

William Proctor was born in 1834 at Stockingford, Warwickshire, England and baptised on 6 Jul 1834 at Nuneaton, Warwickshire.[1] His father was a labourer and no record has been found of William or his parents in the 1841 or 1851 census so it is likely they moved to find work. No record of siblings has been found and no marriage record for his parents has been found in Warwickshire so it is likely they were from elsewhere and were only in Stockingford for a short time.

William Proctor married Sarah Taylor on 27 Dec 1858 at St Martin, Tipton, Staffordshire.[2] They had eight children: William Proctor (b. 1859), Mary Hannah Proctor (1861–1863), Eliza Proctor (1863–1873), George Proctor (b. 1865), Joseph Proctor (b. 1868), Fanny Proctor (b. 1871), Samuel Proctor (b. 1875), Lizzie Georgina Proctor (b. 1877). Sarah already had a daughter Jane Taylor.

In the 1861 census William was age 27 living at West Bromwich with his wife Sarah Proctor (25), daughter Jane Proctor (4), son William Proctor (2). Also boarder Samuel Ballock (19). Occupation Miner.[3]

In the 1871 census William was age 36 living at West Bromwich with his wife Sarah Proctor (35), daughters Jane Proctor (15), Eliza Procter (8), Fanny Procter (2), sons William Proctor (12), George Procter (5), Joshua Procter (3). Occupation Collier.[4]

In the 1881 census William was age 45 living at Oak Lane, West Bromwich with his wife Sarah Proctor (44), daughter Fanny Procter (10), sons Joseph Proctor (12), Samuel Procter (5). Also boarder Thomas Whitehouse (20). Occupation Coal Miner.[5]

In the 1891 census William was age 60? living at West Bromwich with his wife Sarah Proctor (54), sons Joseph Proctor (23), Samuel Procter (15), grandson William Taylor (12). Occupation Coal Miner.[6]

In the 1901 census William was age 70? living at West Bromwich with his wife Sarah Proctor (66), sons Joseph Proctor (33), Samuel Procter (25), grandsons James Morgan (20), Charles Morgan (17). Occupation Rag & Bone Merchant.[7]

William died in 1909 age 75 at West Bromwich.[8] He was buried on 11 Nov 1909 at All Saints, West Bromwich.[9]
