Project: Chile
Categories: Chilean Roots Project | Chilean Roots
The Chile project is a sub-project of the Latin America Project and serves as a central directory for all WikiTree activity relating to the genealogy and family history of the Republic of Chile (Spanish: República de Chile). (para la versión en español: click aquí)
The purpose of this project is to collaborate in posting to WikiTree the profiles of individuals and families directly associated with Chile, while at the same time editing and improving those profiles, contributing proper source citations and providing help and support to WikiTree members who manage profiles or family trees that have some relation to Chile. The Chile project is open to anyone who has an interest in the history or genealogy of Chile.

Our Mission
The mission of the Chile Project is to create, in conjunction with Latin America, a regional project that will help WikiTree to develop a more world-wide focus and attract members internationally by adding high-quality profiles, family trees and relevant free-space pages that highlight the diversity of the Chilean experience.
Group members may take primary responsibility for a specific person and work on merging duplicates, cleaning up profiles, adding sources, and correcting errors. Those who don't have profiles of their own to add, or don't find a particular person who interests them, can contribute to any of those tasks on any available profiles, particularly those that have no Profile Manager assigned.
How to Join
The interim leader of this project is Mindy Silva. You may communicate with her in either English or Spanish. For a full list of participants, see the badge report. If you are interested in leading this sub-project, please let Mindy know!
NOTE: Since this is a sub-project, the badge report and the badge awarded are those of the parent project, Latin American Roots. At such time as the Chile Project has enrolled sufficient members it may be considered for a top-level project.
If you would like to be involved in the Chile sub-project, please do the following:
- Ask Mindy Silva to award you the Latin America project badge.
- Add chile to your list of followed tags. That way you'll see all our discussions in your G2G Feed.
When using G2G to discuss research related to the Chile sub-project, please use the chile tag to alert other WikiTree members who may be interested in persons who have lived, or now live in Chile.
Associated Projects
If you have an interest in a specific country, rather than Latin America in general, you may wish to join one of the projects listed below. If no project exists for your particular country of interest, and you're willing to act as a Project Leader or Project Coordinator, please contact Mindy Silva or Patrick Barnum to discuss the possible creation of the new project.
Our Goals

- Use the appropriate categories to create a complete Biography Biographies
- Make every effort to connect each profile or family tree to the rest of WikiTree
- Place the Chilean Roots template {{Chilean Roots}} on all profiles.
Project Template
The Project Box for this project is "Template:Chilian_Roots". To use it on a profile, just insert the following text into the profile, just above the biography heading:
{{Chile}}
Doing that will display the Project Box as shown below and will also put the profile in "Category:Chile", so that you don't need to include the Category line when posting the Project Box.
