Welcome to the Colepaugh Name Study!

This is a WikiTree Name Study Project to collect together in one place everything about the Colepaugh surname and the variants of that name. My hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for Colepaugh researchers and for those studying lines that cross or intersect. I would love to see this become a place to share knowledge, DNA tests, resources, pictures, stories, and anything else of interest to this surname.

For a list of profiles associated with the project, please see below under Descendants of Andries Colepaugh.

How to Join

You can join by contacting the project leader Erin Klein. See the section below on Project Goals and the Current Task List and What You Can Do to see where you can help. Post questions and comments to the bulletin board at the foot of the page and add details about your particular area of interest. Be sure to post your DNA Tests below as well!

Project Goals

The purpose of this study is to bring together any descendants of the Colepaugh family who are willing to work together to establish an accurate Colepaugh family tree by using the best possible sources available for documentation to make new connections.

Establish the origins of the Colepaugh immigrant(s) who settled in the United States. The first known Colepaugh immigrant appears to be Andreas Colepaugh who first settled in Dutchess County, New York.

To fully understand the origins of the Colepaugh surname, we need males by the surname to test their yDNA for analysis. Although DNA analysis can assist in determining that two or more participants who have tested their yDNA descend from a common male ancestor, it will not identify the specific ancestor without the use of accurate record documentation used in genealogical research. Work will be needed to collaborate the findings of any YDNA tests.

DNA Tests

If this area fills up with multiple DNA test results, I will first put the information into a table for easier viewing and then transfer it to a separate Colepaugh DNA Test page if need be.
