The Giem Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Giem name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Giem name. Giems have been found living in Germany, the United States, England and Canada, and surely went elsewhere.
As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Giems), by time period (18th Century Giems), or by topic (Giem DNA, Giem Occupations, Giem Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.
People who married into the Giem family included, as their surnames frequently later occur as forenames or middle names.
Currently, this project will not cover persons with an Asian surname that name was not originally and has been anglicized as Giem. If someone is interested in Asian Giems, a subproject can be added later.
It appears that the Giems in Canada either were born in the United States or came from the United States. One focus of the project will be to see if the Giems who came to the United States have common ancestors.

As I am American, I am starting with Giems who were born in or came to the United States, but I will expand as necessary, and I would be happy if anyone wanted to explore the Giem surname appearing in other places. I'll be working on them, and could use your help!
