How to Join us_history.gif

For a full list of participants, see the badge report.

The current coordinator for this project is Zachary Smith.

It is not necessary that you be related to someone who lived in the state of Illinois or live there yourself to join. Anyone with an interest is welcome! If you would like to participate, please do the following:

  1. Answer our G2G post and we'll award you the US History Project badge.
  2. Add us_history and Illinois to your list of followed tags. That way you'll see all of our discussions in your G2G Feed.
  3. Please see our list of goals for a basic overview for ways you can help.

Joelle Colville-Hanson I'm particularly interested in Winnebago County. I have Freespace on the Scottish Settlement in Argyle and the Guilford Union Cemetery. Currently working on a free space for Winnebago County and hope to do one on Rockford. Also planning to do a free space for the Scottish Cemetery in Argyle.

The template is {{US History|sub-project=Illinois}} which will give you:

Discuss: Illinois

This template is for use only on profiles that are of importance to the project or need to be PPP'd and managed by the project. It is not for every single person from Illinois. A sticker might be used in that circumstance.

The overall goals of the US History Project are to create and develop profiles on WikiTree for those who lived in the state of Indiana. To meet these goals:

  1. Add Illinois-related profiles, checking for existing profiles to avoid duplication. If any duplicate profiles exist, request merges, starting with the oldest generation.
  2. If profiles were loaded by GEDCOM, use WikiTree Styles and Standards to clean up residue and broken links.
  3. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources.
  4. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies.
  5. Make sure profiles of all family members are correct and documented.
  6. Profiles need to be linked to the greater WikiTree. Try to find the connection.

List of Things to Do

  1. Need space pages created and developed for Illinois counties and linked to this page. Would you like to lead a county project?
  2. If you have any Illinois state resources that you are willing to do lookups, please add them to the Illinois Resources Page.
  3. If you live in Illinois, please consider adding your name to the Illinois Research Assistance page.

Ongoing List of Things to Do

  1. Cemeteries in Illinois need to be photographed and the categories added to profiles on WikiTree. See the Illinois Cemeteries Project
  2. Add profiles for those who obtained land grants and homesteaded in Illinois. See the Homesteaders Project
  3. Help develop the Native Americans Project with information about Illinois state tribes.
  4. Work on Illinois' unconnected and unsourced profiles.
  5. Add profiles for the men who died in World War I, serving from Illinois for the Illinois in the Great War project and for the Roll of Honor project.
