How to Join united_states.gif

The Maryland Project is a sub project of the United States Project. For a full list of participants in the United States Project, see the badge report.

The coordinator for this project is Jack Day.

It is not necessary that you be related to someone who lived in the state of Maryland or live there yourself to join. Anyone with an interest is welcome! If you would like to participate, please do the following:

  1. Answer our G2G post and we'll award you the United States Project badge. Let Jack know you're interested, too!
  2. Add united_states and Maryland to your list of followed tags. That way you'll see all of our discussions in your G2G Feed.
  3. Go to the Maryland Project Members page. Add your name and your areas of interest in Maryland. This way others can see your name and collaborate with you on areas of shared interest.
  4. Please see our list of goals for a basic overview for ways you can help.

The Maryland Project template is {{United States|sub-project=Maryland}} which will give you:

... ... ... is a part of Maryland history.

This template is for use only on profiles that need to be PPP'd and managed by the project. It is not for every single person from Maryland. A sticker, such as Template: Maryland Sticker, might be used in that circumstance.

The overall goals of the United States Project are to create and develop profiles on WikiTree for those who lived in Maryland and the other states in the union. To meet these goals:

  1. Add Maryland-related profiles, checking for existing profiles to avoid duplication. If any duplicate profiles exist, request merges, starting with the oldest generation.
  2. If profiles were loaded by GEDCOM, use WikiTree Styles and Standards to clean up residue and broken links.
  3. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources.
  4. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies.
  5. Make sure profiles of all family members are correct and documented.
  6. Profiles need to be linked to the greater WikiTree. Try to find the connection.

The Southern Colonies project focuses on the Southern Colonies prior to Independence. The Province of Maryland focuses on Maryland history prior to Maryland's incorporation in the United States.

List of Things To Do

  1. Need space pages created and developed for Maryland counties and linked to this page. Would you like to lead a county project?
  2. If you have any Maryland state resources that you are willing to do lookups, please add them to the Maryland Resources Page.
  3. If you live in Maryland, please consider adding your name to the Maryland Research Assistance page.

Ongoing List of Things to Do

  1. Cemeteries in Maryland need to be photographed and the categories added to profiles on WikiTree. See the Maryland Cemeteries Project
  2. Help develop the Native Americans Project with information about Maryland state tribes.
  3. Work on Maryland's unsourced profiles.
  4. Add profiles for the men who died in World War I, serving from Maryland for the Maryland in the Great War project and for the Roll of Honor project.
