How to Join united_states.gif

For a full list of participants, see the badge report.

The coordinator for this project is Caryl Ruckert.

It is not necessary that you be related to someone who lived in the state of Minnesota or live there yourself to join. Anyone with an interest is welcome! If you would like to participate, please do the following:

  1. Answer our G2G post and we'll award you the US History Project badge.
  2. Add us_history and Minnesota to your list of followed tags. That way you'll see all of our discussions in your G2G Feed.
  3. Please see our list of goals for a basic overview for ways you can help.

The template is {{US History|sub-project=Minnesota}} which will give you:

... ... ... is a part of Minnesota history.

This template is for use only on profiles that are of importance to the project or need to be PPP'd and managed by the project. It is not for every single person from Minnesota. A sticker might be used in that circumstance.

The overall goals of the US History Project are to create and develop profiles on WikiTree for those who lived in the state of Minnesota. To meet these goals:

  1. Add Minnesota-related profiles, checking for existing profiles to avoid duplication. If any duplicate profiles exist, request merges, starting with the oldest generation.
  2. If profiles were loaded by GEDCOM, use WikiTree Styles and Standards to clean up residue and broken links.
  3. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources.
  4. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies.
  5. Make sure profiles of all family members are correct and documented.
  6. Profiles need to be linked to the greater WikiTree. Try to find the connection.

List of Things to Do

  1. Need space pages created and developed for Minnesota counties and linked to this page. Would you like to lead a county project?
  2. If you have any Minnesota state resources that you are willing to do lookups, please add them to the Minnesota Resources Page.
  3. If you live in Minnesota, please consider adding your name to the Minnesota Research Assistance page.

Ongoing List of Things to Do

  1. Cemeteries in Minnesota need to be photographed and the categories added to profiles on WikiTree. See the Minnesota Cemeteries Project
  2. Add profiles for those who obtained land grants and homesteaded in Minnesota. See the Homesteaders Project
  3. Help develop the Native Americans Project with information about Minnesota state tribes.
  4. Work on Minnesota's unsourced profiles.
  5. Add profiles for the men who died in World War I, serving from Minnesota for the Minnesota in the Great War project and for the Roll of Honor project.
