This page is for descendants of Captain Thomas Pitman (CTP), born about 1614 in Monmouthshire, England, who immigrated to Jamestown, Virginia, Colonial America in 1649, and others interested in his genealogy.

CTP appeared in Virginia court records in 1649. There were a number of generations of Thomas Pitmans, and untangling them from just scant records remains a challenge. A good starting place is a report prepared by Forrest King, Certified Genealogist: download for example from "Surry County, Virginia, Research by Forrest D. King, CG", https://sites.rootsweb.com/~vaschsm/ForrestKing.html (accessed 5 Nov 2021).

There is a Y-DNA study of descendants of CTP. Please update CTP DNA if you have any information about patrilineal CTP DNA. It's available for your contributions.

The DNA study actively seeks international Pitman lines in order to connect CTP to lines in Europe and solidify his ancestry. The Pitman International Name Study is germane to this effort.
