Project: Sourcerers/Draft
Mission
Our mission is to reduce the number of unsourced profiles on WikiTree, helping to ensure WikiTree profiles are well documented and sourced. Currently, we undertake this by holding monthly Sourcerer Challenges and weekly Saturday Sourcing sprints, which all WikiTree members can participate in.
The Challenges and Sprints are a fun way of helping to improve the data on WikiTree. For the monthly Sourcerers Challenges, Owl stickers are awarded based on the number of contributions and Sourcerer Challenge Winner badges are awarded the first time a participant is the top scorer. For the Saturday Sourcing Sprints, new sprint winners are awarded a Sprint Winner badge the first time they are the top scorer.
Many participants are not focussed on stickers and badges and participate for the pleasure of improving our shared tree!
How to Join
- Project Leaders: Debi Hoag, Wendy Taylor
- Add sourcerers to your followed tags.
- We use G2G and Discord for communication.
- Sourcerers Project Member List.
- Here is what our members are working on.
If you would like to join the project and the fun of our regular challenges, the first step is to register by responding to one of our monthly Sourcerers Challenge posts on G2G. Following this, you can participate in the monthly challenge you registered for by adding sources to Unsourced profiles, following our published rules, and recording your contributions on the Challenge Tracker.
At the end of the month’s challenge, the Sourcerer project team will audit the contributions of all new participants. Sourcerer badges are only awarded to those who have complied with the rules and tracked at least one completely unsourced profile which they have improved by adding at least one valid and reliable source. Adding sources to newly created profiles, while useful, will not meet the criteria, as the project is focussed on adding sources to older, currently unsourced, profiles. Sources should adhere to WikiTree’s Sourcing Guidelines.
Goals
Our current goals are:
- To reduce the number of Unsourced profiles on WikiTree
- To actively support and encourage best practice sourcing on WikiTree.
Tasks
- Participate in our monthly Sourcerer Challenges
- Participate in our Saturday Sourcing Sprints.
- Unsourced Profile Reports are useful for finding profiles which currently lack sources.
- Encourage others to join in.
Challenges
Sourcerers Challenge
The Sourcerers' Challenge is a challenge to motivate our members to get traditional sources on the many unsourced profiles across WikiTree. For further information, see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Sourcerers.
Saturday Sourcing Sprints
Saturday Sourcing Sprints are weekly, one-day challenges for adding sources to unsourced profiles already present on WikiTree. They're fun and casual mini-versions of our annual Source-a-Thon, complete with stickers or badges for registered winners. For further information, see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Sourcerers/Saturday_Sourcing_Sprints.
