How to Join us_history.gif

It is not necessary that you be related to someone who lived in the state of Vermont or live there yourself to join, but project participants need to be members of WikiTree. If you are not yet a WikiTree member, see Help: How to Use WikiTree to get started. Then join the US History project:

This template is for use only on profiles that are of importance to the project or need to be PPP'd and managed by the project. They are not for every single person from Vermont. A sticker might be used in that circumstance.

The overall goals of the US History Project are to create and develop profiles on WikiTree for those who lived in Vermont and the other states in the union. To meet these goals:

  1. Add Vermont-related profiles, checking for existing profiles to avoid duplication. If any duplicate profiles exist, request merges, starting with the oldest generation.
  2. If profiles were loaded by GEDCOM, use WikiTree Styles and Standards to clean up residue and broken links.
  3. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources.
  4. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies.
  5. Make sure profiles of all family members are correct and documented.
  6. Profiles need to be linked to the greater WikiTree. Try to find the connection.

List of Things To Do

  1. Need space pages created and developed for Vermont counties and towns, and need the county pages linked to this page. Would you like to lead a county project?
  2. If you have any Vermont state resources that you are willing to do lookups, please add them to the Vermont Resources Page.
  3. If you live in Vermont, please consider adding your name to the Vermont Research Assistance page.

Ongoing List of Things to Do

  1. Cemeteries in Vermont need to be photographed and the categories added to profiles on WikiTree. See the Vermont Cemeteries Project
  2. Expand the short descriptions and add links to additional resources on the category pages for your favorite Vermont towns (find the town categories under the county categories in Category: Vermont.
  3. Work on Vermont's unconnected and unsourced profiles.#Help develop the Native Americans Project with information about Vermont state tribes.
  4. Add profiles for the men who died in World War I, serving from Vermont for the Vermont in the Great War project and for the Roll of Honor project.
  5. Add the relevant town categories (or county categories if no towns can be identified) to the profiles of individual people who are currently categorized in Category:Vermont.
