How to Join united_states.gif

For a full list of participants, see the badge report.

This project is coordinated by Brian Zalewski.

It is not necessary that you be related to someone who lived in the state of Wisconsin or live there yourself to join. Anyone with an interest is welcome! If you would like to participate, please do the following:

  1. Answer our G2G post and we'll award you the United States Project badge.
  2. Add united_states and Wisconsin to your list of followed tags. That way you'll see all of our discussions in your G2G Feed.
  3. Please see our list of goals for a basic overview for ways you can help.

Template

The template is {{United States|sub-project=Wisconsin}} which will give you:

flag
... ... ... is a part of Wisconsin history.
Join: Wisconsin Project
Discuss: Wisconsin

This template is for use only on profiles that are of importance to the project or need to be PPP'd and managed by the project. They are not for every single person from Wisconsin.

To identify other profiles of Wisconsinites and highlight their special connections to Wisconsin, please use the Wisconsin Sticker. To add the basic default version of the sticker to a profile, enter {{Wisconsin Sticker}} somewhere below the heading "Biography." That will give you this:

... ... ... was a Wisconsinite.

The sticker will also accept free-form text in place of "a Wisconsinite." See Template:Wisconsin Sticker for some examples of how you can use it to highlight your ancestor's particular role or place in the history of Wisconsin.

Goals

The overall goals of the US History Project are to create and develop profiles on WikiTree for those who lived in the state of Wisconsin. To meet these goals:

  1. Add Wisconsin-related profiles, checking for existing profiles to avoid duplication. If any duplicate profiles exist, request merges, starting with the oldest generation.
  2. If profiles were loaded by GEDCOM, use WikiTree Styles and Standards to clean up residue and broken links.
  3. Search out original rather than derivative documentation and add sources.
  4. Write comprehensive, well-sourced biographies.
  5. Make sure profiles of all family members are correct and documented.
  6. Profiles need to be linked to the greater WikiTree. Try to find the connection.

List of Things to Do

  1. Need space pages created and developed for Wisconsin counties and linked to this page. Would you like to lead a county project?
  2. If you have any Wisconsin state resources that you are willing to do lookups, please add them to the Resources Page.
  3. If you live in Wisconsin, please consider adding your name to the Wisconsin Research Assistance page.

Ongoing List of Things to Do

  1. Cemeteries in Wisconsin need to be photographed and the categories added to profiles on WikiTree. See the Wisconsin Cemeteries Project
  2. Add profiles for those who obtained land grants and homesteaded in Wisconsin. See the Homesteaders Project
  3. Help develop the Native Americans Project with information about Wisconsin state tribes.
  4. Work on Wisconsin's unsourced profiles.
  5. Add profiles for the men who died in World War I, serving from Wisconsin for the Wisconsin in the Great War project and for the Roll of Honor project.
