Daniel Elkanah Propst was born June 8, 1855 in North Carolina, United States. He is the son of Jonas Frederick Propst and Lovina Elizabeth (Hallman) Propst . (Citation needed)
Daniel E. Propst, 24, married Sonora Anna Hefner, 18 years, (dau, of Hiram and Ann Hefner) on November 16, 1879 in Catawba County,[1] [2] The couple had the following known children:

Daniel Propst passed away on May 23, 1945; he ccomplished "89 years, 11 months, 15 days ." [3]
His funeral notice was published in The Charlotte Observer,

Charlotte, North Carolina on Friday May 25 May, on page 14.[4]

Census Specifics

Daniel, 24, and Sonora, 16/18, are living in Hickory, Catawba County and recorded in the Federal Census.[7]
In the 1860 Federal census, Daniel, aged 5 years, was recorded in Newton, Catawba County, residing with his parents; Jonas(40), and Lovina (36), and siblings; Mary Ann(16), John Henry(14), Barbara (10), Emanual P(8), and Wilborn(1). [8]
The 1870 census mentions Daniel, 15, living with his parents; Jonas, 50 and Lovina, 46, with his siblings; Barbara, Pinkney, 16, and Jessie Probst, 10 in Hickory Tavern, Catawba County. He is working on the home farm and cannot read nor write.[9]
The 1900 census finds Daniel, 44, living on the farm in Hickory with wife Anna, 36, and children; Mary P, 19, Fannie E, 17, Annie E, 15, Ida M, 13, Arthur E, 10, Clinton O, 8, Cora N, 6, Charly D, 4, and Albert L Propst, 1. Daniel is a farmer who can read and write, and who owns his farm free of a mortgage. The couple have been married 22 years. Wife Anna states she is the mother of nine children, all living in 1900.[10]
In 1910, Daniel, 55, is living on the farm on Lyles Creek Road in Hickory with wife Anna, and seven children; Fannie Propst, 27, Odell, 18, Cora Propst, 16, Charles,14, Loyd, 11, Ella, 6, and Estell Propst, 1. He is a farmer on the mortgage free farm he owns.[11]
The 1920 census, Daniel, 64, is residing with his wife Anna, 56, on Sulphur Springs Road, Hickory, with their children: Fannie, 37, Albert, 20, Ella, 16, and Vivian, 10, on the family farm. The farm is owned mortgage free.[12]
On February 11, 1927, Daniel's wife Anna S. Propst, passed away in Hickory. She was buried on February 13 in the old St. Stephen's Cemetery (now Millers) in Hickory.[13]
The 1930 census locates Daniel, now a widower, living on the farm in Hickory. The house is valued at $1,100. He does not own a radio set. The household consists of; his daughter Fannie L Propst, 46, unmarried, daughter Ella R Walker, 26, her husband Edward E Walker, 25, and their children (his grandchildren) Nellie R Walker, 2, and George N Walker, 0.[14]
In 1940, Daniel Propst, 84 years old, is living with his unmarried daughter, Fannie Propst, 57, on the farm on Route 3, in Hickory. The home is valued at $1,000.[15]
