Amelia was born on 27 February 1829 in Greene, Greene, Pennsylvania, United States. She was the daughter of Jesse Province and Celia Jane (Spencer) Province.^[1]

When Amelia was 18 she married Francis Smith Snodgrass on 15 January 1848 in Monongalia, Virginia, United States. The couple had one child: Celia Jane Snodgrass.^[1][2][3]
