Biography

Birth:
Hubert Loxston Prowse was born on August 9th, 1884, to George Prowse and Louisa Loxston in Maidenhead, England. [1] Note that his first name is often mis-recorded as Herbert.

School:
Hubert Prowse was enrolled in the National School in Cullompton on April 4th, 1890, by his father George while the family was living on Victoria Terrace. Hubert left the school later that same year on 28 November, 1890[2]

Military Service:
In 1902, 18 year old Hubert enlisted in the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own) and served in WWI.[3][4] His enlistment record describes him as "5 foot 6 inches, 126 lbs, chest 32 1/2 to 34 1/2, complexion Fresh, eyes Grey, hair brown, and tattoo dots on left forearm"

Death:
His British Army Services records conclude with a Casualties Form dated 1st May, 1916, which states that "The Army Council has decided that this soldier is to be regarded for official purposes as having died on or before the 18th October, 1914. Next of kin should be notified"
