Isaac Prowse was born on March 28, 1852 in Charlottetown, PEI and was baptized on August 8, 1852 at the Trinity First Methodist Church.[1] He was the son of Joseph Prowse and Agnes Jarvis.
Unlike the rest of his siblings, who settled in Lot 33, Isaac moved to Murray Harbour (Lot 64) along with his uncle, Senator Samuel Prowse. Isaac operated a hotel and a harness-making business. The building also housed the post office.[2]See photo here
Isaac married Elizabeth Beck on September 1, 1880 at the Bible Christian parsonage in Murray Harbour.[3] They had two children, Cecil and Lorne. Elizabeth died in on Dec 30, 1889.[4] Isaac's sister, Elizabeth Prowse, moved in with him to help with the children.[5]
Isaac married Elizabeth's younger sister Louisa Jane Beck[6] on July 2, 1891 in Murray Harbour.[7] They had a daughter, Eda, in 1892.
Isaac died on December 19, 1918, of complications from asthma. His wife, Louisa, died just one week later, on December 26, 1918.[8] They were both buried in the Murray Harbour Old Cemetery. [4]
Research Note
Newspaper announcement of Isaac's 2nd marriage to Louisa Beck says that they were married on July 25, 1891 (marriage record says July 2nd), and that Louisa was the daughter of Samuel Beck. Other sources have Louisa and Elizabeth as sisters, both daughters of William Beck.[9]
