Agnes Prowse was born on August 5, 1872.[1] She was the youngest child of Joseph Prowse and Agnes Jarvis. In 1881, Agnes was living with her parents and siblings on the family farm on Brackley Pt. Road (Lot 33).[2] In 1891, she was one of just three children still living at home[3] On March 26, 1893, Agnes was baptized as an adult in the United Church. [4]
On May 31, 1896, Agnes had a daughter named Bessie. Agnes was an unwed mother. [5] After Bessie was born, Agnes went to live in Boston, where her sister Elizabeth was already living. [6] They were both working as servants. Agnes's daughter Bessie was living with her uncle Phillip and her grandmother Agnes. [7]
By 1911, Agnes and Elizabeth were back in Charlottetown, running a small boarding house, with 1 lodger, in a house that they rented. Agnes's daughter, Bessie, lived with them.[8] By 1921, they owned a boarding house, with 5 boarders.[9] In 1931, they were living in the same house, with two elderly lodgers.[10]
Agnes never married. She died on January 14, 1949 in Charlottetown, at the age of 76.[11]
