Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Adam Prudhomme is a part of US Black heritage.

Adam was born in 1900. He was the son of Alexandre Prudhomme and Mathilde Rideaux.

The 1900 Census[1] shows him at age 1 month in the home of his parents in Ward 1, Justice of Peace Ward 2 (excl. Opelousas town), St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.

The 1910 Census[2] show him at age 10 in the home of his parents in Police Jury Ward 5, St Landry Parish, Louisiana.

The 1920 Census[3] show him at age 19 in the home of his parents in Henry Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.

He married Alice Wilson on 19 Dec 1921 in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.[4] Their children:

  1. Rosa M. Prudom (1923–)
  2. Wesley Joseph Prudom (1925–1995)
  3. Adam Samuel Prudom (1928–2001)
  4. Clinton Prudom (1928–1959)
  5. Lucille Prudhomme (1932–2006)

  8. Wilma Prudhomme (1940–)

The 1940 Census[6] show him at age 40 with his wife and eight children in Schulter Township, Okmulgee County, Oklahoma.

His WWII Draft Registration Card[7] on 15 Feb 1942 states that he is farming in Henryetta, Oklahoma. He is described as 5' 6" and 186 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

He died in 1969,[8] and is buried at the Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.[9]

Research Notes

Regarding the spelling of his surname:

  • Prudhomme is used on his very first census in 1900. [1]
  • Prudhomne is used on the 1940 Census. [6]
  • Prudhome is used on his marriage record,[4] and the 1910[2] and 1920[3] censuses.
  • Prudom is used on the 1930 Census,[5] his WWI Draft Registration Card,[7] the Social Security Death Index,[8] and on his grave marker.[9]

There seems to have been a transition in how he spelled it. Since he was literate according to several censuses,[3][5] he would have direct influence on how it was spelled.
