Jean Prévost was baptized on 14 February 1660 in Québec (ND), stated as being 15 days old on the record, son of Martin Prévost and of Marie Olivier, his godfather was Pascal Lemaistre, his godmother Jeanne Richer.[1]
François was born 16 Feb 1711. His mother was Françoise Cadieu widow of Jean Pageau Prevost. He is said to be of an unknown father (implying that Jean Pageau Prevost died more than 9 months before his birth). He was baptized 2 days later in la Nativité-de-Notre-Dame-de-Beauport, godparents were Jean Turgeon and Thereze Provot wife of Michel Giroux (godmother is the sister of Jean Pageau Prevost). The child had been "ondoié" at home by Raphael Girou (possibly Raphael Giroux brother in law of the godmother). No signatures.[3][4]
The original records kept in Beauport were destroyed in the church fire of 2 Feb 1916 but the second register kept in Les Archives Judiciaires de Québec along with copies of the original in Beauport, made at the end of the XIXth century, contain most of the records. In particular the years prior to François's birth are represented and a burial record for Jean Pageau Prevost is not in those registers. [5]
In the images is an excerpt of an uncited book dating his death to prior to 9 Jul 1713 when his wife's father, Charles Cadieu dit Courville, writes his daughter, Francoise Cadieux widow of Jean Paschal, into his will. This needs further research.
