Biography

Mr. Paul Truman Puckett, 91, of 3942 Hatchers Chapel Road, Claudville, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Puckett was born June 18, 1915, in Carroll County to the late Falus Penn and Mabel Bolt Puckett. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Puckett was a retired carpenter and attended Unity Church in Ararat. In addition to his parents, Mr. Puckett was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Turman and Audrey Stanley; and two brothers, the Rev. Serle Puckett and Maynard Puckett. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Sue Mills Puckett, of the home; a daughter, Willynda "Lynda" Holder, of Claudville; six grandchildren, Donna Childress of Lake Wylie, S.C., Melanie Slate of Claudville, Jeffrey Childress of Winston-Salem, Lisa Kisamore of Mount Airy, Gerri Mazur of Concord and Trey Childress of King; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; three sisters, Kathryn Harris of Abingdon, Nina Westmoreland of Hillsville and Geraldine Terry of Meadows of Dan; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Rayton and Faith Puckett of Hillsville; and 48 nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 8, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, N.C. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Rayton Puckett and the Rev. Buford Jessup. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens, with full military rites conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Aug. 8, at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Willynda "Lynda" Holder, 3950 Hatchers Chapel Road, Claudville. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com
