Biography

Austin was born in 1803 in North Carolina. He married Lucinda Puett, a 1st cousin, in 1823 and had at least eight children with her. She died in 1845. The following year, he married Amy Wright and had at least another five children with her. The census reports show him as a farmer and a trader. However, some family reports state that he was very active in the Democratic Party especially in support of Amy's brother, Joseph. I have not found sources but it is reported that he held several local offices as well as headed several campaigns for Joseph.
