John was born about 1535. He is the son of Adam Pullen and Phyllis Unknown. Known as the elder
1566 indictment of John Twede of Lexden Thomas Twede of Fordham and Edward Payne of Earls Colne all yeomen for assaulting John Polly of Earls Colne yeoman in the porch of the parish church of the same[1]

1582 (this has been taken from a long list with others from various towns in Essex including Halstead and Great Dunmow etc) writ to take Thomas and Richard Kelton of Earls Colne gents John Polly of Earls Colne yeoman and have them at the easter sessions note the above are not found in the bailiwick witness Thomas Mildmay knight at Chelmsford[3]
It was not noticed by the Earls Colne project that Adam and Felix had two sons named john. All the activity for John is contained in P802. At the time of the will of Felix in 1574 there were no grandchildren from either John mentioned, the first child arrived in 1580, this and subsequently children are assumed to be of John the younger.
