Edward S. Pullen (5'10', complexion, light; hair, light; eyes, blue) according to the Trenton Directory is listed as a coachmaker, bookkeeper, timekeeper, clerk at Amer. Chain, grocer, chainmaker, foreman- chain shop, sup't. chain works up to 1887, and then his obituary lists him as a farmer where he died in South Seaville, NJ on December 21, 1891. He died of Valvular disease of heart. Edward S. Pullen enrolled in Company H of the 9th Regiment (infantry) on 8/29/1861, was mustered in 9/9/1861 at Trenton, NJ and mustered out 7/12/1865 at Camp Olden in Trenton, NJ. He signed up for a 3 year tour. He was promoted to Corp., 10/3/61, serj.2/1/62, 1st Serj. 3/1/62. 1st Lt 122362 and Captain upon the death of Captain Lawrence (5/31/64). He was commissioned as Captain in the Union Army, New Jersey Volunteers, 9th Regiment, Company C, on August 29, 1864. He was wounded on or about the 5th day of June, 1864 at Petersburg, VA by a morter shell that exploded about 15' above his head. A piece struck him on his right shoulder fracturing the shoulder blade and knocking him unconscious. He was carried from the field by his comrades on a stretcher and sent to a hospital. After his release from the hospital he was sent to North Carolina where he was a Provost Guard. His shoulder was weak and painful, and he was unable to lift any weight or do burdonsome tasks, and disablity increased with his age. He was given an honorable discharge on July 12, 1865.
