Samuel Evans Pulleyblank was born on 4 Aug 1853 in Ivybridge, Devonshire, England to James Pulliblank and Eliza Northmore. The Ivybridge location was entered into the Murphy Family Bible from Samuel after he arrived here and the England and Wales Birth Registration Index of 1837 - 2008 gives a date of 1853 in Plympton, Devon, England. A Baptismal date of 1854 in Devon is given in the England, Devon, Parish Registers of 1538 - 1912.

Samuel came to the United States in 1878. He came west of the Mississippi as there was a need for experienced coal miners and the pay was good.

Samuel married Sarah Margaret Smith, daughter of John O. Smith and Susanna (Lovel) Smith, on 19 Feb 1880 in Wilson County, Kansas.

Sarah gave birth to Susie Belle Pulleyblank on 21 April 1881 in New Albany, Wilson County, Kansas. Sometime after that, Samuel left the marriage and went south into Indian Territory. A son, John E., was born to Sarah on 25 May 1883 in New Albany, Wilson County, Kansas. According to family, Samuel didn't know that John was on the way, and they didn't believe that Samuel and Sarah ever got a divorce.

Sarah and family moved into her parents home where John died on 17 Oct 1884 in New Albany, Wilson County, Kansas.

Samuel married Margaret P. Tinney, daughter of Elijah Tinney and Margaret Elizabeth (Selby) Tinney, in 1886 in Van Buren County, Arkansas.

Samuel is shown in the 1900 census of Twp. 9, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory as a direct laborer, age 46, born Sep 1853 in England, parents both born England; his wife, Maggie (Margaret), is age 35, born Jan 1861 in Alabama, parents both born Alabama; Maggie's mother, Elizabeth Tennie, a widow, age 68, born Jan 1832 in Alabama, parents both born Georgia; and Maggie's brother, Isaac Tennie, a direct laborer, single, age 28, born Feb 1872 in Alabama, parents both born Alabama. Samuel and Maggie have been married 14 years. She has had 3 children, none living.

According to the family, the three children were girls, were not named, died soon after birth and were buried somewhere in Oklahoma or Arkansas. This was affirmed by daughter Margaret who was born later.

A daughter, Margaret, was born on 8 Sep 1901 in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas to Samuel and Margaret.

Margaret P. passed away in 1908 in Oklahoma. Her burial place is unknown.

Samuel is shown in the 1910 census of Dow, Pittsburgh County, Oklahoma as a miner in a coal mine, a widow, age 56, born England, parents both born England; and daughter Maggie (Margaret) is 8 years of age, born Arkansas, father born England and mother born Alabama. This census shows that Samuel came to the US in 1878,

Samuel is shown in the 1920 census of Gowen, Latimer County, Oklahoma as a laborer in a coal mine, a widower, age 66, born England, parents both born England. Sometime in the 1920s, Samuel became very ill. Daughter Margaret, who lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, came to Oklahoma and transported him to Nebraska, stopping on the way so they could visit with Susie and family in New Albany.

Samuel died on 28 Sep 1932 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska and is buried in the Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska.
