Joseph Pulman was born in Yorkshire, England.

Joseph was the son of Thomas Pulman and Tamar Mitchell and the twin of John Pulman baptized on 30 Jul 1837^[1][2][3]

He married Sarah Hartley on 24 oct 1857.^[4] They had issue:

3. Ellen Jagger, b. 20 Dec 1860, d. 1946
