I was at Falmouth Art School in the 1970s with an Alan Punchard, and I thought he came from Devon. Is this the same Alan Punchard? I did not know him well, but he did a painting of a derelict air raid shelter surrounded by brambles which was so lovely I asked him if I could buy it. He seemed surprised but was happy to sell it to me. We were both students and neither of us had much money; I can't remember what I paid him for it. Unfortunately it went quite dark with time and assuming he had used oils I tackled it with a wet cloth, when much of the paint came off so I now have a black panel with the ghost of a painting, but I still keep it.

I also have a photograph with the back view of him in a boiler suit, standing at an easel – though his face is not visible I know this was him. Did he really die at age 20? How very sad. He would have had a future as a painter. But if he had died in 1977, I think I would have known, so may be a different Alan Punchard.
