Biography

Henry John Punchard was born on 26 Aug 1838 in Little Wratting, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. His parents were Charles Punchard, a farmer, and Elizabeth Havers [1]

In 1841, when Henry was 2 years old, he was recorded with his parents and siblings at their farm at Blunt'S Hall in Little Wratting, Suffolk. [2]

In 1861 he was working as a Corn Miller's Assistant and living with his brother Francis (18), a housekeeping and servant at Mills Lane, Kedlington, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom. [3]

On 10 May 1864 he married Emily Bailey in Hartley Wintney, Southampton He was employed as a Miller and living in Wicklow, County Kent. They were both of full age. John Bailey and A.B. Bailey were witnesses to the marriage. [4]

In 1881 he was living with his wife and children at Shardeloes in St Paul Deptford, London, Kent, England. He was 42 years old and employed as a Commission Agent. [5]

Later that same year he emigrated with his family to Canada where his brother Charles was living in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada.

Sadly, his wife Emily passed away at the young age of 51 years when they were living in Seaforth, Huron East, Huron, Ontario, Canada. [6]

In 1901 he was living with two of his daughters in Huron, Ontario.[7]

In 1911 he was living with his daughter Catherine and her husband in Simcoe South Sub-Districts 1-29, Ontario, Canada. [8]

Three years later Henry John fell ill from something affecting his brain and respiratory system. Three weeks later he passed away on 22 May 1913 in Bradford, Simcoe, Ontario at the age of 74 years.

He was laid to rest at the Maitlandbank Cemetery in Seaforth, Huron, Ontario, Canada where his wife was also buried. [9]

  • cause of death is listed as something like, "Doffering of Brain" or "Boffering of Brain" of 3 weeks. Would be good to review and see if it's possible to uncover what this is/was. possibly a type of stroke?
