In 1869 the Punchard family emigrated from England and travelled to Quebec, Canada. The family of 8 travelled on the Nova Scotian in Sep 1869.[2]

His family settled in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada. But, shortly after, a tragedy set in. Four people in their family passed away from Typhoid Fever in 1870.
His sister Elizabeth Edith Punchard died on 21 July 1870 at their home in Toronto when she was 5 years old. On 8 Aug 1870 their mother Elizabeth also passed away (34 years old).
On 20 Aug 1870 Arthur Edward Punchard passed away from Typhoid Fever when he was 8 years old. [3] His brother Charles William also passed away 10 days later on 30 Aug (10 years old).
