Biography

William Thomas Punchard was born 2 Jul 1878 in Kempsford, Gloucestershire, England to George Punchard and Sarah Hannah (Woodword) Punchard. His birth was registered in Cirencester, Gloucestershire in the third quarter of the year.[1]

[William is not living with his parents in 1881 - possibly he was staying with another relative]

In 1891 William Thomas Punchard (age 12, Agricultural Labourer) lived in Ramsden, Oxfordshire with his father George (39, Coachman Domestic Servant), mother Sarah Hannah (39), and six siblings: Jane May (10, Scholar), Arthur George (8, Scholar), Herbert Tom (6, Scholar), Elsie Annie (3), Georgina (0), and George (0).[2]

In 1901 William T Punchard (age 22, Groom Domestic) lived in Digswell, Hertfordshire.[3]

In 1911 William Thomas Punchard (age 32, Stableman Domestic) lived at St George Hanover Square, Piccadilly W, London, in the household of Ernest Jim Brown ().[4]

William immigrated to the United States between 1911 and 1917.

William T Punchard (Chauffeur) married Katherine Madden (Seamstress) on 15 Dec 1917 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts.[5]

William and Katherine had at least four children: Katherine May Punchard (1918-), Margaret Georgianna Punchard (1920-), William G Punchard (1923-1983), and Anne V (Punchard) McKendry (1928-2013).

On 12 Sept 1918 William Thomas Punchard filled out a Draft Registration Card - he was born 2 July 1878 in Great Britain; he was not a US citizen, but a Declarent Alien (intending to become a citizen); he resided at 179 W. Brookline, Boston; he was a Chauffer employed by Mrs E N Coolidge; his nearest relative was Catherine Punchard; he was short, with a medium build, and had blue eyes and brown hair.[6]

In 1920 William "Punchers" (age 41, Chauffeur) lived in Cambridge Ward 9, Middlesex, Massachusetts with his wife Katherine (29) and daughter Katherine (1).[7]

William's wife Katherine seems to have passed away sometime before 1930, and William married Jane E --.

William and Jane had at least two children: Daniel Punchard (1930-) and Geneva Punchard (1932-).

In 1930 William T Punchard (age 55, Chauffeur) lived at Flint Street in Somersville, Middlesex with his wife Jane E (37) and three children: Catherine M (11), William G (6), and Daniel (0).[8]

In 1940 William Punchard (age 63, Caretaker Private Home) lived in Boston Ward 11 with five of his children: Mary (21, Store Sales Clerk), William (16), Ann (12), Daniel (10), and Geneva (8).[9] William's wife Jane E Punchard (48) was residing at Grafton State Hospital (a psychiatric hospital).[10]
