Alfred Punchard was born in Suffolk, England.

Alfred Punchard was born in 1842 in Rattlesden, Suffolk, England to Jeremiah Punchard and Sarah (Ranson) Punchard. His birth was registered in Stow, Suffolk in the last quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Ranson.[1]

In 1851 Alfred Punchard (age 8) lived in Rattlesden with his father Jeremiah (51, Ag Lab), mother Sarah (49), five siblings: Ellen (17), Ann (13), Henry (11), Henry[George] (10), and Harry (6), nephew Herbert Punchard (3), and grandfather William Ranson (72, Ag Lab).[2]

Alfred Punchard (age 21, son of Jeremiah Punchard) married Eliza Parsons (age 23, daughter of William Parsons) on 7 May 1865 at Saint Nicholas in Brighton, Sussex.[3][4] The marriage was registered in Brighton in the second quarter of the year.[5]

Alfred and Eliza had seven children: George Punchard (1865-1877), Alfred Herbert Punchard (1866-1886), William Henry Punchard (1868-1877), Frederick Punchard (1870-1945), Alice Punchard (1871-1886), Charles Punchard (1873-1873), and Harry Punchard (1874-1876).

In 1871 Alfred Punchard (age 26, Flyman) lived in Brighton with his wife Eliza (29) and four sons: George (5), Alfred (4), William (2), and Frederick (0).[6]

Alfred's wife Eliza Punchard passed away in 1874.

Alfred Punchard married Sarah Ann Newton in 1876. The marriage was registered in Brighton in the second quarter of the year.[7] Sarah already had one son: Charles Henry Newton (1867-1941), Charles used the surname Punchard after their marriage.

Alfred and Sarah had six children: Harry Punchard (1876-1962), Louisa Caroline (Punchard) Green (1877-1964), Florie Punchard (1879-1896), Annie (Punchard) Mitchell (1880-1967), Bert Punchard (1882-1932), and Jessie (Punchard) Mitchell (1884-1927).

In 1881 Alfred Punchard (age 37, Fly Driver) lived at Nelson St in Brighton with his wife Sarah (36), eight children: Alfred (14), Charles (13), Frederick (10), Alice (9), Harry (7), Lousia (3), Florie (2), and Anna (0), as well as lodger Catherine E Brigland (33).[8]

In 1891 Alfred Punchard (age 48, Cab Proprieter) lived at Spring Gardens in Brighton with his wife Sarah (46) and eight children: Charles (25, Cab Driver), Frederick (22, Cab Driver), Louisa (15, Help House Duty), Harry (14, Scholar), Florry (12, Scholar), Bertie (10, Scholar), Annie (8, Scholar), and Jessie (6, Scholar).[9]

Alfred Punchard passed away in 1891, aged 48 years.[10]
