In 1871 Charles H Newton (age 3, Scholar) lived in Brighton with his mother Sarah (24, Domestic Servant), they were visitors in the household of Thomas H Robey.[2]

Charles' mother married Alfred Punchard in 1876, and from that point on Charles also used the name Charles Henry Punchard.

Unable to locate Charles on the 1901 census - his wife Sarah A Newton (26, Charwoman) lived with her mother in Preston, Sussex.

In 1911 Charles Henry Punchard (age 44, Cabman at Cab Yard) was living in a Work House in Brighton.[6] He was still listed as married, but his wife does not seem to have been recorded on the census.
