Biography

1st Lieutenant David Pung served in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II

David Joseph Pung was born on 4 September 1922 in Melrose, Minnesota the son of Joseph and Louise (Mootz) Pung. He was raised and educated in St. Cloud, Minnesota where he graduated from high school and technical school. In 1941, he came to Grand Forks to attend the University of North Dakota. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.

David served in the U.S. Air Force from August of 1944 to September of 1946. He was a B-17 pilot and airplane commander for a nine person crew serving as a 1st Lieutenant with the 15th Air Force in Italy. https://www.wikiwand.com/en/15th_Expeditionary_Mobility_Task_Force

After the war, he returned to college at UND. In 1950, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.

David married Marlys Nickeson on 19 August 1950 in Grand Forks. They lived in Golden Valley, Minnesota where David worked for many years in jewelry sales for Jewelmont, Co. They also spent many years together at their lake home on Fishtrap Lake, Minnesota and winter months in Lake Havasu, Arizona. David and Marlys returned to Grand Forks in 2004. Marlys died on 30 November 2014.
