Biography

Eliza was born in 1870. She was the daughter of Henry Pung and Mary Ann Grimwood.^[1]

In 1887, 17-year-old Eliza had her first child with William Caley, Henry William. He was later followed by Lily, Walter and Ethel.

In the 1891 census, the couple can be seen living together with their children in Eliza's father's home. William seems to be recorded 'euphemistically' as a lodger.^[2]

Eliza and William Caley married in 1893 shortly before their son, Frederick Caley was born.^[3]

She gave birth to Bertie Caley sometime in December 1896 who died at only 3 months of age and buried in February 1897.

Eliza herself died later that year at the age of 27 and was buried at Great Bricett on the 30th of October 1897.^[4][5]

Research Notes

• William is presumed to be the father of all her children as her first son and daughter were registered with Caley as a middle name (proof may be found in their birth certificates)
• father on 1891 census Henry Pung but father is John Pung on school admission
