Mark A. Purdie, 53, of Grand Island died Friday, March 25, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday with a family prayer service at 9:45 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jack Gillam will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell, with full military honors provided by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.
Mr. Purdie was born March 22, 1958, at Grand Island to Lawrence and Margaret (Thienel) Purdie.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Jody; a son, PFC Matthew Purdie currently serving in Afghanistan; daughters and son-in-law, SSG Noel and SFC Bryan Hunter of Fort Hood, Texas and Tara Purdie of Temple, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Jim Clark of Grand Island, Kathy Roeder of Superior; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Steve and Janice Purdie of Lincoln, Ronald and Joyce Purdie of Haysville, Kan., and Richard Purdie of Texas.
Mark was welcomed into heaven by his parents; sister, Marlene Guardiola and brother, Gary Purdie.
Mark was raised in Grand Island where he graduated from Grand Island Senior High. He was united in marriage to Jody Rodenbaugh on Oct. 28, 1977. Mark served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp and the United States Army having served in Desert Storm. During his service in the military they lived in California and Louisiana. They made their home in Grand Island. Mark was always proud to have served his country.
Mark coached youth soccer; loved golfing and he flew model helicopters. He loved his '55 Chevy. Mark received a degree in computer programming and worked part time for Fast Cash. He enjoyed solving the world's problems with his coffee group at the Farmer's Daughter Cafe. His most precious love was spending time with his family.
A memorial fund will be established in Mark's name.
