John was born in 1830. He was the son of John Lewis Purdum and Jemima D. King.
John married Sarah Ann Baker on 29 December 1852 at Montgomery County, Maryland. They had six children.
Census 1870: Living with his wife Sarah and five children in Maryland, United States. Aged 39 and a Farmer.[1]
Sadly his wife passed away in 1876.
He married, secondly, Lucinda Moxley (daughter of Reuben M. Moxley and Kitty Ann Wolfe) on 3 January 1878 at Montgomery County, Maryland. They went on to have 3 children.
