Research Notes

  • Parrin[12] has some incorrect information pertaining to Roger Purdy's wife and children. Roger, the son of Joshua and Mary (Park) Purdy was born in 1750 which makes it impossible to marry Anne Elizabeth Fowler in 1742. Information from Leona Haviland says Roger Purdy married Anna Purdy daughter of Isaac & Sarah (Budd) Purdy. Also, the Early Connecticut Marriages reference states Roger Purdy married Anna Purdy on 2 March 1789. In addition, the Will of Roger Purdy of the town of Rye, dated 9 Jun 1806, mentions, four daughters Polly (Mary), Sarah (Sally), Hannah and Nancy; their mother (and wife) Anna; and son Isaac. Will proven 11 Mar 1807, Bedford, NY.
  • Additional research is needed for date of birth for Roger. The 1750 year is from the ABGI[1] and Leona Haviland[2].
  • The 1790 Census that has a Roger Purdy in Harrison, Westchester County, New York[8] is a little tenuous as there is a Roger Purdy, Junior in Harrison on the 1800 Census. Our Roger Purdy's father was Joshua Purdy and Roger did not have a son Roger. So where was our Roger in 1800? He could have been living with one of his children. More research is needed.
  • Another couple of facts that need further research is the date of Roger and Anna's marriage and the date of their first child's birth. Their marriage was on 2 March 1789[4] and their daughter Mary Purdy's birth was 12 May 1788. Perhaps examination of the original source used by Bailey will clarify the issue.
  • Karin Corbeil's List of Purdy Genealogical Records, in particular the New York Purdy Cemetery Records included, "Purdy, Roger, d. 13 June 1805 [must be typo for 1806 as his will is dated 1806] in 56th yr. " As his gravestone is damaged and the date of death impossible to read, Ms. Corbeil must have obtained this date from an earlier transcription. More research is needed to find this source.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Roger by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Roger:
