Beriah Curtis
Moravia, Cayuga, New York
Notes (1) Records: 1. Beriah Curtis family bible in possession of Paul Clark Fawson, St. George, Utah 2. Scrapbook items from Historian of Moravia, N.Y., 1960's, Mr. Leslie Luther, Moravia, N.Y. 3. V.R. of Moravia, N.Y. 4. Mar. date to Phebe Curtis -- N.Y. Gen. & Biog. Record, Vol. 38, Page 145, Seattle, WA Public Library, G-NY, 929.1, N489. 5. Research in New York, by Paul C. Fawson, found a book: "Historical Sketches of the Town of Moravia from 1791-1873". It was published in 1874. Synopsis: A man purchased the land for the site of Moravia in 1789. He built a house and farmed the land for three years. In 1793 three men and their families joined him. None of them were named Purdy or Curtis. This record along with some strong feelings that the archive record stating Beriah Curtis was born in Simpronius in 1789 tell me it's the wrong place. He checked the census records. 6. Information received from Persis Phebe Beach in a letter written June 27, 1926 (since lost) to Sarah Elizabeth Curtis Fawson.
