I was born March 6, 1956 in Sophn Hostpital, Corpus Christi, Texas to James Harrison “ Jim “ Pusley and Hilda Irene Scott. I lived a very ordinary lower middle class life with my family and older brother. I had very good parents whom I loved very much and now miss with a heavy heart. My dad bought a home on 1025 Vernon Dr. in Corpus Christi between Up River Rd. and Dolan Street. It was a small neighborhood called Donna Park with only four streets and one cross street, this would be our home for the next seventeen years. My dad’s parents lived two streets over at 1137 Manchester and I can’t tell you how many times I cut through the back alley to go to there home to eat and play there stereo. I attended Ebony Acres Elementary School until they name was changed to Weldon Gibson when I was in the fifth grade. He was the principal of the school then and passed away during the school year. I loved playing baseball and football and was pretty decent at them. From my earliest years my dad and papaw would take me hunting and fishing and I really fell in love with these two activities and have had a lifelong passion for them. I spent many hours at various ranches and fishing spots with my dad, brother and papaw. To this day I still think about those times and it still is part of the greatest times in my life. I was eleven or twelve when I started asking my dad about or last name and it’s origin. My mom’s maiden name was Scott and there are thousands of people named Scott but Pusley was all the same a different story. That’s when my papaw told me we were Choctaw Indians on his side of the family from Oklahoma, and that we were part of the Five Civilized Tribes. I didn’t think to much about then but I remembered my grandpaw Willie who looked like an Indian and could speak Choctaw fluently as well as my great grandmother Laura Leland. Most people could not pronounce are last name right and they darn sure couldn’t spell it.

Janet, i see you have written to me a couple of times and i have not responded. I was not trying to be rude I am still trying to find my way around this site and I have a lot to learn. My main focus has been on my father's side of the family and the origin of my last name "Pusley". The name was brought to Oklahoma by the Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians from out of Mississippi and Alabama. As i have researched the name is English in origin and that there were many Pusley's in Kentucky and Massachusetts. Peter Pusley fought in the Revolutionary War is one example. Any many others scattered around. i have found other family tree's of the Pusley family, and our origin starts in Natchez, Mississippi with William George Pusley and nearly everyone agree's that is the first Pusley on record from our families. He and his family came to Oklahoma on The Trail of Tears in 1831 but who his father is i don't think anyone really knows for certain. James Kennedy has done a considerable amount of work on the Pusley family and it's history and I have conversed with him on several occasions. Recently I have found some interesting data on the Willliam Pusley B.(1844) D.(1880) he is my great great grandfather and it has been excepted that he is William George Pusley's son but I beg to differ. I think he may have been a grandson but i believe Joshua Pusley was his father. My Great Aunt Marjorie kept up with the family genealogy and for most of her life she was convinced that Joshua Pusley was William Pusley's father. Then a Choctaw genealogist by the name of Alma Mason wrote her book on Choctaw migration from Mississippi and changed her mind. Is there any way I can get a group of the Genealogist to confer with on this subject since i type very poor. i would like to here there opinion on some of the new things I have found. Thank's Lance Pusley

Hi - fifth generation Oklahoman here :0) We have a new museum in Oklahoma City - you may know this already- but it's called First Americans Museum, and I hope it will become a help for some of the research you're doing. This is their website: https://famok.org/

The shared tree can feel weird if you've mostly worked on your "direct line" and had the great family stories... On my first day here, I found my Great Grandmother, who lived until I was 28 (so I had the huge blessing of having a lot of time with her, got to hear her stories) suddenly had all these half siblings. I thought it had to be wrong, I have photos of her and all of her siblings, they're always with me - but it turned out they were a second family, and my Great Grandmother's father left his first wife and children... I was so sad and horrified, I had to take a break from here pretty quickly.

So it can get overwhelming, and new information can shake our foundation for a while. But a lot of people here are so incredibly helpful, I ask a question, someone usually has an answer within an hour :) You don't have to type wonderfully, that's what auto-correct is for ;0)

Lonnng story short, I'd love to help if I can. I really enjoyed the family photos you've shared here. AmyLynn
