A previous version of this profile claimed she was daughter of John Putman Sr and Priscilla Gould of Great Missenden, christened 05 FEB 1614.[1] But there is insufficient proof that this Mary was the later wife of emigrant George Williams.
Do not confuse with another child Mary Putnam b 8 March 1617 with father Mark also at born at Little Missenden, Buckingham, England
Robert Charles Anderson, in "The Great Migration Begins", [3] gives George's wife no maiden surname -- and that may turn out to be the wisest choice. WikiTree genealogists reading this biography are encouraged to join in the research needed to prove or disprove the Putnam connection, and to log verifiable sources for any conclusions at which they arrive.
Biography
Mary supposedly arrived in Salem, Massachusetts about 1633.[4]

Anderson has her as Unknown and so far no one has been able to come up with a reason to think her LNAB is Putnam. I agree we should change her LNAB to Unknown Jillaine.
Beryl, there are several other baptisms with a father John Putnam at Great Missenden. These make it clear that he is not the same John Putnam who was baptizing his children at Aston Abbots and immigrated to New England. Sorry but the connection cannot be made with that baptism record.
Beryl, how does the baptism record you posted prove that she is the same person as the wife of George Williams?
Also worth noting is that Marie and Mary are the exact same name and used interchangeably in this time period (as are Jane and Joan). No distinction should be made between the names.
To unconfused matters ...this was another person: Mary Putnam b 8 March 1617/8 with father Mark also at born at Little Missenden, Buckingham, England

Just to confuse matters... "A history of the Putnam family in England and America" [1] also shows "Mary, bapt., Little Missenden, 8 Mar., 1618"; daughter of Mark Putnam.
