The 1871 Census recorded 57-year-old Frederick Puttock or Puttick (name appears to have been recorded as Puttock and overwritten as Puttick) in Wisborough Green, Sussex, with wife Sophia, 50, and children William, 26, Frederick, 23, Edward, 19, Alice, 14, Henry J., 12, and Rhoda, 8. Frederick was born in Kirdford, Sussex; Sophia was born in Fittleworth, Sussex, and all of the children were born in Wisborough Green. Frederick and all four sons in the household were agricultural labourers.[2]
William Puttick, son of Frederick, was married to Mary Jane Wakeford, daughter of Thomas, at Wisborough Green, Sussex, England, on 1 June 1872.[3]
