Marriage and divorce records have not been located, but it can be surmised that the relationship between Elizabeth Ellen Pyle and Andrew Johnson Gordon was short lived. By 1868 Elizabeth Ellen Pyle has gone on to marry Carlisle Torrence Pyle. We can see Andrew Johnson Gordon is living with his mother and siblings in the 1870 census. The fact that Johnson Gordon is the father of daughter Emma Paulina Gordon is established by her death record. By the time Emma was two she was being raised by her step-father Carlisle Torrence Pyle, and it is his surname (or her mother's maiden name) that Emma uses on her marriage license in her marriage to Robert Graham Pyle. From correspondence with a descendant:

Question sent as to why Gordon surname was not on marriage certificate:

Reply... I believe I first obtained her maiden name from her death certificate. I have an image of it in my "gallery" section for her. My best explanation would be that something happened between her parents and they separated. Emma's mother seems to have remarried and her second husband was a Pyle (Carlisle Torrence Pyle). The date of the marriage was December 29, 1868. -J
