OBITUARY. FUNERAL OF MRS EDWARD SMITH. After only a few days' illness, an old and respected resident of Wedgecarrup, in the person of Mrs Edward Smith, passed away in the early hours of last Monday morning at the age of 67 years. The deceased was the second daughter of the late Elijah Quartermaine, of Beverley, and was born on January 14th, 1851. In 1863 the family moved to Yowanup, near Katanning, where the deceased resided up to the time of her marriage with Mr Edward Smith on August 8th, 1877. Wedgecarrup was her new home, where she resided 41 years up to the time of her death and leaves a husband, six daughters and four sons (one of whom Jack, is on active service) to mourn her loss. The funeral was last Tuesday at 2 p.m. The first part of the service was held at St. George's in the presence of a large number of mourners. "Nearer my God to Thee," was one of the hymns, and the deceased's favourite hymn. Miss Muriel Temby presided at the organ. At the conclusion of the "Dead March in Saul," the cortege moved from the Church to the Cemetery. The chief mourners at the graveside were Mr Edward Smith (husband), Fred, Elijah and Gus (sons), Lizzie, Lily, Jeff and Ethel (daughters), A. Chester and J. Fleay (sons-in-law), Mrs E. Barron (sister-in-law), Walter, Donald and Eli Quartermaine, Katanning (nephews), Jim Quartermaine, Albany (nephew), Mr and Mrs E. Quartermaine (nephew and niece), Mr and Mrs W. Fleay (nephew and niece), N. Fleay (nephew), Mr and Mrs Albert Quartermaine (nephew and niece), Clarrie, Horrie and Eric Quartermaine (nephews), Laura and Netee Quartermaine, Katanning, (nieces), Mr and Mrs C. Haddleton, Katanning (nephew and niece), Mr and Mrs H. Taylor (nephew niece) Mr and Mrs Blundy (nephew and niece), Mrs P Foulds (niece), Mrs G. D. Taylor, Mrs H. E. Andrews, Mr W. Barron, Will and Joe Taylor, and H. Andrews (cousins), Mr and Mrs Janes (son-in-law and daughter) also came from Perth but were unable to attend the funeral. The pallbearers were:—Messrs Grieve, Wallace, Coweher, Sinclair, Chellew and Temby. . . .
