Walter was born about 1824 to 1826. (Walter Queally was 75 in the census of March 1901.[1], but Walter Quealy was 83 when he died in Dec 1908.[2])
Walter married in Carrigaholt parish:[3]
FEBRUARY 26th 1854
WALTER QUAILY from KILKEE to BRIDGET BLAKE from RAHONA
Witnesses: JOHN BLAKE & MARY ELIGOT
Rev M J KENNY
In Kildeema in Griffith's Valuation in 1855, Walter Quealy occupied (no. 2a) a house and offices with rateable annual valuation of 1 pound on 61a 3r 39p.
The Census of 1901 lists Walter, Roman Catholic, aged 75 as head of home at Kildeema, a widower, able to read & write Irish & English living with son Patrick (& Patrick's wife Mary aged 33 & children Bridget & Mary) @ House 2 in Kildeema (Einagh), Clare [1]
Walter passed away 6 December 1908 (aged 83) at the residence of his daughter Mary 'Queally' (present at death) of Frances Street, Kilrush (note spelling discrepancy in Mary's surname). He had enteritis for 12 days & Chronic Cardiac Failure for 2 days prior to his death. His death was registered on 15 December.[2][4] Walter buried @ Cill tSeanain, Tullaher, Clare Ireland
Note his daughter present at his death but maybe check that no confusion with Walter's daughter law who was also Mary Quealy or Queally who was married to Walter's son Patrick.
Listed as Wallie on his son John's marriage Certificate which was transcribed by John Blake Quealy (3rd).
An older Walter Quealy (Quealy-192 Wikitree) buried in Kilcrona possibly Walter's grandfather?? however this would put doubt with his father named Michael (Tombstone mentions son Jn). Alternatively an uncle?? needs further research QUEALY-192 tombstone inscription reads:
Erected by Jn (? John?) Quealy in memory of his father Walter Quealy who departed this life March 26th 1846 aged 88 years. May he rest in peace Amen[5]
The older man is probably the Walter Quealy listed as an occupier in the townland of Lisheenfurroor (variously transcribed as "Liscen Furruir" or "Listen Furruin") in the Tithe Applotment Book of 17 Nov 1827 for the parish of Moyarta.[6]
Ancestry transcription from Griffiths Land Valuations 1847-1864, page 56; Walter Quealy County Clare, Barony of Moyarta, Parish Kilfearagh, Townland of Kildeema (Lessor was William Armstrong)
A search of Petty Sessions Court records for County Clare shows that Walter was defendant 10/11/1862 in a balance of wages dispute whilst he was resident at Kildimo (an alternative spelling for the townland of Kildeema in the civil parish of Kilfearagh) resulting in wages received with costs. Also Walter of Kildeema, Kilkee, County Clare was on trial for Drunkenness on 21/12/1900 (drunk on 4/12/1900, making him about 74 years of age), and was fined 1 shilling. Also Walter leased land from William Armstrong while residing at Kildeema, Kilfearagh.
In 1900 Bridget Quealy died aged 9 months in the presence of mother Mary Queally (note LL in spelling of family name).[citation needed]
Note: Walter & sibling Nora born same year 1826 (query twins?)
