Biography

Belitje was a daughter of Thomas Theunisse Quick and Rymerick Westfall. No record of her baptism is known; she may have been born in 1680 or 1681, during a period for which there is a gap in the baptism records of the Kingston (New York) Reformed Dutch Church, or perhaps a few years later.[1]

Parents

  • Father: Thomas Theunisse Quick c: 24 APR 1644 at New Amsterdam, New Netherlands (NY)
  • Mother: Rymerick Jurriaens Westvaal b: ABT 1653 at Kingston, Ulster, NY

Family

There is no record for a marriage for Belitje. She is recorded as the mother of two illegitimate children. Solomon Davis (b: 1680 in Kingston, Ulster, NY), is a strong candidate to have been the father of her son Salomon Kwik, born in 1709.[2]

Children

Note that children born in Minisink area were baptised by visiting domines and baptism recorded an Kingston RDC. One exception was the "lost records" that for some reason were not forwarded to the Kingston church. These events were recorded at the Minisink church once it was established.

  • Salomon Davis bapt: 11 SEP 1709 in Kingston, Ulster, NY. Baptism was recorded at the central Reformed Dutch Church of Kingston, Ulster County, New York[3]. Sponsors were: Hendrik Dekker, Claartje de Hooges. Note: Marked illegitimate?
  • Joel Quick c: 16 JAN 1726 in Rochester, Ulster, NY. [4]. Sponsors were: Jury Best, Antjen Donsbeggen. Marked illegitimate?. m. Christina Middagh, b. bef. October 22, 1727 in the Machackemack RDC September 03, 1751. She was Daughter of Jacobus "Jacob" Jan Middagh and Zara Middagh.

With the second name of “Jacob”, Belitje Jacob is surely the daughter of a Jacob not a Thomas.

In any case according to ACQ the children of Thomas Theuniszen Quick (ACQ, B5) and Rymerick Westvall are Antje (ACQ, C31), Theunis (ACQ, C32), Jurraien (ACQ, C33), Johannes (ACQ, C34), Weyntje (ACQ, C35), Elletje (ACQ, C36), Johannes (ACQ, C37), Weyntje (ACQ, C38) and Geertje (ACQ, C39). There is no mention of a Belitje Jacobs.

ACQ has made errors but he is right more than 90% of the time.

This person needs study by someone with the book by Arthur Craig Quick (ACQ) in hand.

ACQ has what appears to be this person (ACQ, C11, daughter of Jacob Theuniszen Quick de Looper) married twice but not to Solomon Davis.

ACQ has much material on Solomon Davis on pages 30-33 in conjunction with Thomas Quick (ACQ, C44) “The Indian Slayer”. He has no marriage between Davis and Quick.

Peren Davids appears to be another child that does not belong here,,,possible artifact of past merges...

Belitje Quick's profile has Joris and Isaac Davis as her sons but Solomon Davis's profile shows him remarrying and these sons being Engeltjen's children.

Belitje Quick-320, ca 1660, and Belitje Quick-506 ca. 1680 are not the same person.

Belitje Quick-320 married Gerrit Cosynzen|Cosijnze|Cosyn|Cozyn|Cozine.

Belitje Quick-506 may have married Solomon Davis...She claimed that one of her two illegitimate children was fathered by Solomon,(KRDC Bapt Rec.) She was found latter in life with Solomon.

The Cosine child shown under Quick-506 may belong to Quick-320...then...? Tom Quick
