Biography

  • 1911 First WOMAN in the USA to gain a pilots license and one of the first in the world to do so[1][2][3]
  • received her pilots license without ever having an accident in the air[3]
  • FIRST WOMAN to fly across the English Channel[2]
  • Listed as "Most Underrated Aviatrix" in an article by Richard Reinhardt in May/June 2000[1]
  • d/o William Quimby & Ursula Cook
  • Was a journalist, theatre critic, screenwriter for DW Griffith, spokesperson for Vin Fiz
  • died in aviation accident at an unsanctioned ACA event in Boston. Her plane took a sharp nose dive and she and her passenger were thrown out of their seats. They both fell nearly 1000ft to their deaths.[2]
  • buried in Woodlawn Cemetery[2] but later moved to Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY[2][4]
