Biography

Birth

Robert Quinn, son of James Quinn (born in Ireland) was born 10 Oct. 1839, in Wheeling, West Virginia.[1] Robert's mother is listed as Ann Young on his marriage record of 1883[2], but her maiden name is said to have been "Anna Moffit, born in Ireland" on his death certificate in 1928 (informant was his wife Sarah). [1]

Family

Robert's parents moved to St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri by Sept. 1841, and lived there through 1849 as shown by the birth of his siblings. The family appears there on the 1850 Federal census, with Robert, twelve years old.[3]
Robert's father James Quinn is listed as 46 years old in the 1850 census, and his wife Ann age 32 years. Robert at twelve is the eldest of their seven children, and the only one born in Virginia - the rest were born in Missouri.[3]

Sergeant in Union Army

Robert Quinn, enlisted in Company G, 15th Reg. Kansas Vol. Cavalry, 12 Sept. 1863, and was discharged 19 Oct. 1865 with the rank of Sergeant.[4] His military headstone is at the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.[4] Although he was born and raised in the south, Robert enlisted with the Union army of the north.[4]

Marriage

Robert Quinn married Sarah Elizabeth Doane, daughter of Milton and Cynthia (Miller) Doane, on 20 May 1883 in Greenfield, Iowa.[2] He was forty-three at the time of their marriage, and Sarah was sixteen - permission of her parents is noted on their marriage record.[2]

Profession

Robert Quinn was a house painter, according to the information given by his wife on his death certificate in 1928, and also listed in his marriage record in 1883.[2]

Death

Robert and Sarah Quinn moved to Greenfield, Adair County, Iowa, fifty-one years before his death, as reported on his death certificate, [1] and on his census records
Robert Quinn died 20 Dec. 1928,[4] age 89 years, 10 months and 2 days.[1]
