No more info is currently available for Jim Quinn. Can you add to his biography?
Re: Benalla Historical Society "The Kelly Family Tree", James is "UNmarried". Birthplace seems to differ from below information, possibly incorrect Spouse. (Karen MacDonald via Margaret Miller/Quinn line) 2020. Looking at Obituary attached as Image he was youngest born, not the same James/Jim Quinn!
See death/execution notice and history re James Quinn Violet Town 1871 https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/197572093# -States this James travelled on the Montmerency to Tasmania 1854 from Ireland then to Victoria on the Steamer Southern Cross with his wife. (Would have married in Tasmania?)
Travelled with parents on the ship "The England" in 1841, to Melbourne from Ireland listed as Joseph age 1 yr. 9 children (see Flood-1103)
James was born about 1840 in Ireland. He arrived in South Australia on the "Nugget" in 1854 with his 3 brothers and 4 sisters (James was the youngest). At an early age James work for Mr. John Gleeson at Inchquin Station near Clare. James married Catherine Mary McEvoy on 20 February 1865 at the St Patricks Catholic Church, Adelaide SA. He passed away in 1929.
I write you concerning the listing in WikiTree of (1) James Thomas Quinn, (2) Ellen (Quinn) Kelly, Edward (Ned) Kelly’s mother and (3) James Francis Quinn (abt. 1842 - 1929) who is nominated in WikiTree as being James Thomas’s son and Ellen’s brother.
James Francis Quinn, as depicted and described in WikiTree, is my great-grand-father.
Now for the conflict:
The Ships List Record of Arrivals in SA 1847-1886, indicate that James Francis Quinn arrived in Port Adelaide from Ireland, via Southampton, on 3rd, April 1858 aboard the Nugget.
He was 17 years old at the time and traveled with a number of young, single siblings. They are nominated as having previously resided in County Galway, Ireland although family is uncertain if it was County Galway, or, Clare.
Of course, as applied in other parts of Europe, nominal boundaries changed and did not necessarily carry much significance with young folk.
Although the preceding information conflicts with the origins and arrival date of James Thomas Quinn and family in Victoria, there are a couple of coincidence: (1) My g-g, James Francis Quinn, father’s Christian name is shown as being Thomas on his Marriage Certificate, (2) It has been said that he was related to Edward Kelly and that Kelly visited the family near the Clare Valley, South Australia. This seems unlikely, considering Edward Kelly is recorded as being active principally in North Western Victoria.
My father Leslie James Quinn was born 6 May 1914 and died 10 Sept 2004 and my mother Winifred Clare Quinn (nee O’Leary) was born 13 March 1917 and died 21 Sept 2007. They had 5 children, two now surviving including me.
I was aware that my great grandfather (James Quinn, born 1840? (possiby 1842?) Clare Ireland, died in June 1929 in Pt Pirie) had in 1864 married Catherine McEvoy my great grandmother (born 1843 at Dry Creek just north of Adelaide, died 26 August 1928). The dates that I mention are those that I am aware of from my own family information.
Quinn-649 is part of the Quinn/Kelly line that resided in Victoria, not SA, I think this was a different James, perhaps as one of the note put for the McEvoy marriage was a Leslie James Quinn, not a James Francis Quinn.
This James’ Parents were as per Quinn-649, ie James Quinn, and Mary Anne McClusky.. See Ellen Quinn, sister of James (Edward Kelly’s mother), I am from Margaret Miller next generation down from their sister Mary Quinn Miller, if you can check for his birth date perhaps on the Marriage record (even though they were sometimes inaccurate) and the Parentage recorded on that Certificate it should confirm perhaps not this same James Francis.
The James Francis Quinn b.c 1840 M Catherine McEvoy is not the son of James Quinn and Mary McCluskey. NOR is he the sibling of Ellen Quinn (Ned Kelly's mother). The James Francis Quinn b.c. 1840 (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Quinn-1423) did ome out to Australia until the mid to late 1850's with his 3 brothers and 4 sisters. (There is some conjecture as to whether or not he arrived 1854 or 1858. There are not shipping records with a James Quinn on board nugget 1854 but there is for 1858.
James Quinn (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Quinn-1423) and Mary McCluskey (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McCluskey-780) arrived 1841 with all of the family.
The 1881 Cencus of Ireland shows James Francis ""Jim"" Quinn was born in 1841 in County Galway Ireland and death is correct this comes from my Heritage.

The James Francis Quinn b.c 1840 and who married Catherine McEvoy is not the son of James Quinn and Mary McCluskey. NOR is he the sibling of Ellen Quinn (Ned Kelly's mother). The James Francis Quinn b.c. 1840 did not come out to Australia until the mid to late 1850's with his 3 brothers and 4 sisters. (There is some conjecture as to whether or not he arrived 1854 or 1858. There are no shipping records with a James Quinn on board nugget 1854 but there is for 1858, and therefore not the same person!
James Quinn and Mary McCluskey arrived 1841 with all of the family.
The brother of Ellen Quinn, James Quinn was Born 1839 and Died 1914.
